A probable Medieval copper-alloy harness pendant suspension loop, dating to AD 1300 - 1400. The loop is complete. The head of the loop is sub oval and widens slightly at the base to create a folded plate with a central rectangular aperture. The plate is undecorated. At the rear of the plate is an integral circular sectioned integral rivet, set off centre. At the base the plate is split but the aperture and folded back to create two loops which would have housed an axis bar for the suspension of a separate pendant element. An incomplete copper-alloy harness mount dating to c.1250-1400. A T-shaped object with integral rivets at either end of the bar of the T. The bar has a D-shaped section, the rivets are circular in section. From the centre of the bar is a downward short stem of the T, this expands into a rounded, low-domed knop with a central circular hole retaining an incomplete circular sectioned rivet. Below projects a tapering arm which appears to originally have been a loop (possibly squared loop). Traces of white metal coating are visible on both sides. The reverse is flat and undecorated. A si…

The front face of the mount is decorated with a heraldic design of a bend (triple stranded) due to wear this is all that is visible. The decoration would have probably been inlaid with enamel. A similar mount from Dorset can be seen on the PAS database which may illustrate the original coat of arms: DOR-A8AC5D. The coat of arms could be similar to that seen on a harness pendant recorded in…
