A cast copper alloy dog-headed spout from a medieval ewer (a cast jug used to hold water for washing hands, primarily at meals (Lewis 1987, page 1). The distal opening of the spout is cylindrical, emerging from the mouth of the angular and crudely formed dog's head. The ears are vertical and protrude above the flattened top of the head. Along the mid line of the top of the head is a cast ridge. below the prominent, cast brow are incised, almost lozengiform eyes.The snout is slightly upturned and has incised v-shaped nostrils.
