An incomplete silver gilt dress hook with filigree decoration. A trefoil plate with a pinked outer edge. On each lobe is a dome, two of which retain filigree decoration comprising three wire circles set around a small dome-headed pin. At the centre, between the domes, is a separately applied wide-headed pin which is attached with a butterfly fastening visible at the back of the plate. Description: A silver gilt dress fastener. Probably the catch piece from a hook and eye fastening. The plate of the fastener is curvilinear in outline. On the front the central element decorated in relief with a cherub head with outstretched wings flanking it. The head projects forward from the plate. It is slightly tilted and turned so that it is looking right and has stylised facial features comprising eyes, nose and mouth. A late Medieval dress fitting, lozenge-shaped, with a sphere attached to each corner and a central collet set with a pale pink stone. Two of the corners have been bent out of shape. The surface is decorated with roughly incised lines and the edges are serrated. On the reverse are the remains of two stitching bars. The dress fitting is silver-gilt apart from the spheres, which are plain silver and possibly intended to simulate pearls. The object dates from the late fifteenth century.

Copper alloy catch-piece of hook and catch fastener. Oval plate with a rectilinear loop at one end. Three pierced projections (?sewing loops) for attachment, one at the opposite end to the loop and two either side of it. The front is decorated with two moulded curlicues with an equal armed cross between them The field is textured with small pellets. The back is flat and undecorated.
