A piece of flint debitage of Mesolithic to Neolithic date (c. 7000 - 3500 BC) in the form of a blade. The blade is struck off a tertiary flake and retains none of its original cortex. The dorsal surface exhibits five parallel negative flake scars from previous blade removal and a step termination at the distal end. The ventral surface exhibits a small, low bulb of percussion and tightly spaced conchoidal ripple marks. There is no evidence of retouch. The blade has been recorticated due to long term burial in a chalk environment, and is white-grey in colour. The piece of debitage …

The dorsal surface exhibits three parallel negative flake scars from previous blade removal. A striking platform is present at its proximal end. A piece of flint debitage of Mesolithic date (c. 10,000 - 4000 BC) in the form of a bladelet. The blade is struck off a tertiary flake and retains none of its original cortex. The dorsal surface exhibits three negative flake scars from previous blade removal, which give the bladelet a triangular cross section. The ventral surface exhibits a very low bulb of percussion and faint conchoidal ripple marks. There is no evidence of retouch. The bladelet has been recorticated due to long term burial in a chalk environment, and is white-grey in colour. The piece of debitage measures 37.…

An assemblage of flint debitage, probably of Mesolithic or Neolithic date, c. 11000-2600 BC. Part of a larger assemblage of flint, see also: WILT-19B371; WILT-196E52; WILT-1940B2; WILT-19C816; WILT-185746; WILT-17D77C; WILT-17714B A group of flakes, typically of blue-grey flint with pale inclusions, although some brown-grey flints are also represented. The group comprises of 1 primary flake (19.40g), 16 secondary flakes (224.89g) and 15 tertiary flakes (80.54g). The group as a whole exhibits irregular, broad flake like removals with several showing sings of modern damage. In gene…

The dorsal face exhibits 6 negative flake scars from previous flake removal, one of which terminates in a hinge fracture. The proximal end has a large striking platform, and a bulb of percussion is present on the ventral face, as well as two parallel flake scars from flake removal. The flint is grey-brown in colour with white inclusions. The debitage measures 43.91mm in length, 26.54mm in width, 9.88mm in thickness and weighs 14.44g.

Three flint waste flakes, found close together. All likely to be of Neolithic to Bronze Age date. 1. Secondary waste flake with no signs of retouch. The edges remains sharp, with a small amount of plough damage. Cortex covers the majority of the dorsal face. The flint is mottled grey in colour with a high gloss patina. Length: 38.5mm, Width: 25.9mm, Thickness: 9.8mm Weight: 8.2g 2. Tertiary flint waste flake with no obvious sign of retouch. The edges remain relatively sharp. The flake is dark grey-brown in colour with a lighter patch on the left hand side. Length: 41.2mm…

Sevon incomplete flakes prehistoric flint debitage. The flakes represent a number of flint sources, and are a mix of tertiary and secondary flakes, although where it survives the area still covered by cortex is invariably small. The proximal end survives on three flakes, these all have relatively diffuse bulbs of percussion, only one exhibiting a bulbar scar and with one exhibtiign a slight 'lip' at the platform, suggesting the use of a soft hammer. One flake exhibits platform preparation, and clear evidence of multiple striking platforms. The flakes exhibit a mixture of sub-parallel …

A secondary flint blade flake classed as debitage, the material produced during the process of lithic reduction and blade manufacture. The flake is sub-rectangular in shape due to a laterally break, possibly during manufacture. A very small amount of cortex remains on the distal end of the dorsal face. The flint is light brown and semi-translucent with a mid-loss patina. The bulb of percussion is lost, however there are strong conchoidal ripples indicating probable use of a hard hammer. The dorsal faces hows multiple small parallel blade removal scars. Date: Late Neolithic to Early…

Atertiary flint waste flake of mid-grey opaque colour, probably dating from the Neolithic period to Early Bronze Age (circa 4000 BC-2200 BC ). The Dorsal face has three longitudinal flake removals which are highlighted with iron staining to the ridges. The distal end and working edge appear to be damaged with the back retouched to form a flat back edge. The ventral face has a bulb of percussion with very slight rippling. The platform has some recent damage. Length: 68.48 mm. Width: 45.18. Thickness: 17.91 mm. Weight:53 grams.

The dorsal face has several scars from natural weathering and tumbling. There are some small patches of nodule coretex on one edge of the flake. There is a large striking platform at the proximal end and a large bulb of percussion and clear waves of percussion on the ventral surface. A flint waste flake. Mid brown flint with large pale grey patches and a high gloss patina. There is a small area of off-white nodule cortex at the distal end. There is a small striking platform at the proximal end and a small bulb of percussion with a bulbar scar on the ventral face. The dorsal face is heavily worked with numerous small, elongate flaking scars from the production of bladelets. the scars have marked waves of percussion. There is some irregular loss at the proximal end of the dorsal face and this, together with the fact that the flake is quite thick, suggest this is a co…

Two secondary waste flakes. Irregular flakes, both of banded light grey-brown and dark grey flint with a low gloss patina on the light grey brown areas and a milky-white patina on the dark grey. Both have areas of yellowed nodule cortex. Both flakes have some recent edge damage. The first flake has a small striking platform and a bulb of percussion with a bulbar scar. The distal end has been snapped off. There are two flaking scars on the dorsal surface flanking a large area of cortex. The second flake is a fragment from the distal end of a larger piece. Again the rest has been snappe…

Two tertiary waste flakes. Elongate flakes, both of mid grey-brown with occasional off-white patches and a mid gloss patina. Both flakes have some recent edge damage. Both flakes are indicative of blade production. The first flake has a small striking platform and a bulb of percussion with a bulbar scar. There are prominent waves of percussion on the ventral face. There are several flaking scars on the dorsal surface. The distal end is wider than the proximal end and appears to be broken. The second flake has had the proximal end snapped off. It has several elongate flaking scars on t…
