A piece of flint debitage of probable Neolithic-Bronze Age date, circa 4000 - 801 BC. It is a tertiary flake and retains none of the original cortex. The dorsal face exhibits 6 negative flake scars from previous flake removal, one of which terminates in a hinge fracture. The proximal end has a large striking platform, and a bulb of percussion is present on the ventral face, as well as two parallel flake scars from flake removal. The flint is grey-brown in colour with white inclusions.
The debitage measures 43.91mm in length, 26.54mm in width, 9.88mm in thickness and weighs 14.44g.

An assemblage of flint debitage, probably of Mesolithic or Neolithic date, c. 11000-2600 BC. Part of a larger assemblage of flint, see also: WILT-19B371; WILT-196E52; WILT-1940B2; WILT-19C816; WILT-185746; WILT-17D77C; WILT-17714B
A group of flakes, typically of blue-grey flint with pale inclusions, although some brown-grey flints are also represented. The group comprises of 1 primary flake (19.40g), 16 secondary flakes (224.89g) and 15 tertiary flakes (80.54g). The group as a whole exhibits irregular, broad flake like removals with several showing sings of modern damage. In general the tertiary flakes are smaller, with a small number exhibiting some sub-parallel removal scars.
The group as a whole is characterised by large, irregular primary and secondary flakes with smaller, more regular tertiary blades, in general only a minority of flints exhibit evidence of retouch or of having been otherwise utilised. This suggests that the bulk of the assemblage relates to the initial knapping and preparation of cores; the blade-like knapping technology suggests a date in the Mesolithic or Neolithic, with the presence of a possible microdenticulate, finely serrated blades and microlith production suggesting that a proportion of the assemblage at least dates to the mesolithic.

Four late Neolithic to early Bronze Age waste flakes dating to 3300 BC - 1600 BC.
Flake 1: A large secondary sub-oval flake of opaque, light grey flint with a low-gloss patina. Chalky cortex remains on a small area of the dorsal face on the left side proximal end. The dorsal face shows flake removal scars with strong conchoidal rippling. The ventral face some possible retouch to the right side margin and has a prominent bulb of percussion indicating probable use of a hard hammer.
Date: Late Neolithic to early Bronze Age.
Dimensions: 63.9 mm x 42.2 mm x 6.3 mm
Weight: 22.42 g
Flake 2: A tertiary sub-oval flake of opaque, mottled beige flint now covered in a speckled milky bluey white re-cortification with a high-gloss patina. There is a circular area of less siliceous beige flint at one end. The dorsal and ventral face show covering flake removal scars. There is no apparent bulb of percussion.
Date: Late Neolithic to early Bronze Age.
Dimensions: 35.2 mm x 42.5 mm x 9.4 mm
Weight: 18.76 g
Flake 3: An irregularly shaped tertiary retouched flake of semi-opaque, brown/grey flint with a low-gloss patina. The dorsal face shows flake removal scars and a possibly deliberately made notch on the left side margin. Some small scaled flakes seem to have been removed from the distal end and left side margin although fairly crude. The ventral face shows a prominent bulb of percussion indicating probable use of a hard hammer.
Date: Late Neolithic to early Bronze Age.
Dimensions: 29.6 mm x 16.8 mm x 6.6 mm
Weight: 3.99 g
Flake 4: A sub-oval primary flake of opaque, dark grey Portland chert with a low-gloss patina. The dorsal face shows flake removal scars creating a central ridge. The ventral face shows no apparent bulb of percussion indicating probable use of a soft hammer.
Date: Late Neolithic to early Bronze Age.
Dimensions: 42.9 mm x 22.1 mm x 10.1 mm
Weight: 11.73 g

A large elongate secondary waste flake of opaque pale grey flint with a matt off-white patina. At the proximal end is a small striking platform and low bulb of percussion with a bulbar scar. There are indistinct waves of percussion on the ventral face . The flake flares to the distal end and has several parallel flaking scars on the dorsal face. There are two patches of thick nodule cortex at the distal end, one on each corner. There are areas of iron staining. This flake is possibly from blade production.

A large elongate secondary flake of opaque, patchy dark grey an off-white flint with a glossy patina. The proximal end has been broken off leaving a remnant of a bulb of percussion. There area few widely spaced waves of percussion on the ventral face.At the distal end is a band of abraded nodule cortex. There are several, largely parallel, flaking scars on the dorsal face. The flake has an irregular trapeziodal cross section. This flake is probably from blade production.

A large elongate secondary flake of opaque beige flint with a patchy mid-gloss patina. There is a wide striking platform and low bulb of percussion at the distal end. There are many indistinct waves of percussion on the ventral face. The distal end has been broken off and there is post-depositional edge damage there and along the sides. Along one edge is a patch of thick nodule cortex. There are several, largely parallel, flaking scars and a hinge fracture on the dorsal face. The flake has an irregular triangular cross section. This flake is probably from blade production. There are areas of iron staining.

One secondary and one tertiary flint waste flakes. Both are of opaque mid grey to beige flint with a low-gloss patina.
A] The striking platform and bulb of percussion are missing. There is a hinge fracture at the distal end on the ventral face. It retains a small area of abraded cortex at the distal end on the dorsal face. A fault in the flint has caused the ventral face to fracture irregularly. There is some post-depositional edge damage.

Weight: 14.52 g
B] A small striking platform and a low bulb of percussion at the proximal end. There are widely spaced waves of percussion on the ventral face. There are three parallel flake removal scars on the dorsal face creating a trapeziodal cross section. There is some post-depositional edge damage.
Dimensions: Length; 42.26 mm Width; 17.31 mm Thickness; 2.14 mm
Weight: 3.27 g
