A Mesolithic flint core, used for the production of blades and flakes dating to the period c.10,000-4000 BC. It is broadly conical in form. It has a single striking platform as flakes have been removed in the same direction, predominantly from one side. It exhibits five parallel negative flake scars from blade and flake removal. The core retains an area of cortex comprising c.

A group of flint cores, probably of Mesolithic or Neolithic date, c. 11,000- 2,600 BC, part of a larger assemblage of flint, see also: WILT-19B371; WILT-196E52; WILT-1940B2; WILT-19212E; WILT-185746; WILT-17D77C; WILT-19C816.
The group comprises of 5 cores all of dark blue-grey flint with paler inclusions, although the surface of one has become patinated and is now white, with visible iron staining on the ridges between removal facets. All of the cores have surviving cortex covering a portion of their surface, and many also appear to have been subjected to modern damage. In gener…

A complete small flint core dating from the late Mesolithic 6,300-4,300 BC to early Neolithic period 4,500-3,500 BC. In plan, the core is oval and in section it is pointed sub-oval. The core has had many blade removals of various sizes. Opposite the butt end there is a natural fault within the flint, which probably resulted in the core being discarded. There is one very small patch of cortex remaining to one edge. The core is a milky /grey: silky smooth with a less siliceous patch below the butt end. Dimensions are: Height from butt end, 36.19 mm. Width41.18 mm. Thickness 27.45 mm. We…

A pyramid-shaped single platform core dating from the late Mesolithic period (6,000 BC) to early Neolithic period (3000 BC). There are approximately nine flake removals. A small area of cortex remains at the distal end. The core colour is banded from dark brown to a milky white with a silky smooth patina. The flint has a major flaw to one side which has probably rendered the core unsuitable for further flake removal. Dimensions are; Length 46.86 mm. Width 39.02 mm. Weight 52 grams.
