Object type: COIN
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Dorset
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A very worn and heavily clipped cilver post-medieval sixpence of James I, dated (AD) 1606. The outer legends have been completely clipped away and the obverse bust is very worn. The obverses wear suggests possible intentional rubbing of the coin, as it has also been bent forwards in the upper third and backwards on the lower third, akin to so-called 'love-tokens' of the post-medieval period. The reverse is not as worn. Uncertain initial mark, third or fourth bust type.
