A contemporary copy of a shilling of Edward VI. A copper alloy core which was probably originally silvered. The initial mark appears to by a Y suggesting this is copying a prototype of the Southwark mint (see North Vol II, No. 1971/2). Date: Early Post Medieval - c. 1549 - 1551 Dimensions: 30.69 mm Weight: 4.56 g Die axis: 2 There are several similar coins recorded on the database, most notable are two hoards of copies recorded in records GLO-A21DB3 and CORN-9A1215. This example does not appear to have been struck from the same die as either of the coins from these groups.
