A rare, copper-alloy dupondius of Severus Alexander (AD 222-235), minted in Rome, AD 229. RESTITVTOR MON reverse type depicting the emperor standing left with spear. Ref. RIC, Vol. IV, Part II, p.118, no. 601. Severus Alexander apparently struck this coinage in connection with an 'enigmatic ... '"reform" in c. 229 celebrated with dupondii inscribed Restitvtor Mon (Alexander standing) and Mon Restitvta (Moneta standing). The nature of this event is a mystery, though it may be a celebration of the effectiveness of Alexander's decision in 222 to abandon the inflationary double-denarius' …

Weight 11.1 grams , Width 28mm, length 28mm , thickness 1.5 mm Coin is very worn on the reverse side but just making out the CERES and the person seated, and showing most detail of the obverse giving it a clear ID.

There are several copies similar to this coin in the Sacred Spring at Bath (Walker 1989, p. 323). It is not possible to be certain that these coins are British products but it appears highly likely.
