An incomplete sheet copper-alloy sword or dagger scabbard chape .The object is formed from a single piece of sheet copper-alloy folded to give it a sub-triangular form, tapering to a rounded and domed terminal end and an aperture at the top. To one side there is a seam created where the sheet is joined. The pointed end is domed with a low collar above it. The chape is decorated with a moulded double ridge around the top. Medieval copper alloy chape, possibly from a sword or dagger scabbard The cast chape is incomplete, missing much of one side and the base (with a length of 45.0mm and a weight of 9.6g). The top corners had rounded indents, now damaged and truncated (with a maximum width at the shoulders of 19.3mm where it has a thickness of 6.0mm, now somewhat crushed). A Medieval to Post-Medieval copper alloy sheet chape, probably dating to c. AD 1300-1600. The chape is rolled, tapering to a point at one end and with a scalloped edge at the other. The two edges of the sheet meet at a soldered longitudinal join on the reverse. Length 44.3mm; Width 12.9mm; Thickness 3.4mm; Weight 3.59g.
