A solid cast biconvex button from the medieval to early post-Medieval periods,c.1230-c.1550.The copper-alloy wire loop survives in situ (embedded) and the button's head appears to have a high tin content. It measures 9.55 mm in diameter, and weighs 2.616 grams. Reference: MoL Dress Accessories ( Nos 1384-1395 ). Brian Read, Metal buttons c.900 BC-c.AD 1700, 2nd Ed. Nos 78-87.

An incomplete lead tin alloy button. A composite, discoidal,two-piece button with a solid convex front and a broken separate iron shank. There is a slight knop at the centre of the convex front. The rear is flat. Only a stub of the shank remains at the rear. Date: Post medieval- 17th century Dimensions: 13.32 mm x 4.51 mm Weight: 3.42 g Similar examples are recorded in Read, B, 2005, Metal Buttons c. 900 BC - c. AD 1700, p. 76, nos. 304 & 305, although these both have copper alloy wire shanks.

An incomplete cast composite two piece lead/tin alloy button of probable medieval date, circa 1380-1450 . The head is of flattened-spherical form.The separate embedded drawn wire loop is largely missing, with only two short stubs visible. Diameter: 8.66 mm. Height: 6.62 mm. weight: 2.071 grams. Reference: Brian Read, Metal Buttons, c.900 BC-c.AD1700. pages 22.23.
