A complete copper alloy annular brooch. A small circular framed brooch. The frame is oval in cross section. It has a constriction for the pin attachment. The front of the frame is decorated with a moulded pattern of evenly spaced transverse incised lines with raised areas between.The pin is of copper alloy. It is rectangular and is hooked at one and over the constriction in the frame. It terminates in a break. The frame and pin are different colours and probably of different alloys.

An incomplete copper alloy annular brooch. The frame only remains, the pin is missing. The frame thin and oval with an oval cross section. It is decorated with moulded diagonal grooves all over the front face, the rear is undecorated. THere is a narrow oconstriction in the middle of one of the long sides where the missing pin was attached.

A copper alloy Medieval annular brooch. A circular frame with part of the pin attached. The frame is stepped convex on the front and flat at the rear. The front face is decorated with six raised circular cells or collets. Each of these contains a white paste material, probably the remains of a fixative for holding the original glass stones in place (now missing). A complete annular brooch and pin. The frame is wide and dished producing a C-shaped cross section. The inner edge is chamfered. There is a constriction in the frame for the attachment of the pin. The frame is undecorated. The pin is a strip of silver sheet metal which tapers to a point. the point has been bent down at right angles to the body of the pin. At the other end the strip is curled over where it was attached to the frame. Before the hooked end the front face of the pin has six incised angled grooves.

A Medieval copper-alloy annular brooch, dating to c. AD 1250 - 1350. The pin is missing. The frame of the brooch is circular with a D-shaped cross section. There is a narrow constriction in the frame for the missing a pin , This is filled by iron corrosion. The front face of the frame is decorated with eleven moulded bumps. The rear is undecorated.

An incomplete silver annular brooch with an inscription on both faces, The frame is circular with a flat, rectangular cross section. There is a thin constriction in the frame for the attachment of the missing pin. Both faces of the frame are inscribed. One face is inscribed with only six letters, spaced apart. The other face is covered with an inscription of around 28 letters. Both inscriptions contain Roman and Lombardic style lettering and some of the letters are reversed.

An incomplete copper-alloy brooch made from an English copper-alloy jetton of 13th - 14th century date.
The jetton is similar on the reverse to Mitchiner 171, an English type datable to c.1280-1343. The obverse is obscured, but may be a shield of arms.
Soldered to the reverse is a strip of copper alloy sheet which would have formed and attachment hook.

The pin is looped around the constriction and has a moulded collar decorated with moulded alternating pellets. Beyond this the pin tapers to a point overlapping the opposite side of the frame. A copper alloy annular brooch. A circular open frame with a constriction to accomodate the fine wire pin. The frame is D-shaped in cross section, flat on the reverse. There are clear file marks on the reverse. The front is decorated with a series of eleven irregularly spaced transverse notches with raised areas between giving it a segmented appearance. The pin is thin and tapering. It is hooked around the constriction in the frame.
Reference: Very close to an example from London found in a context of c.1270 - c.1350 Egan & Pritchard, 1991.
