The find consists of two fragments of gold ‘bracelet’-length piece of gold with rectangular cross-section. The bar has been twisted and probably represents twisted decoration but the twist is not regular and we cannot be entirely certain whether this was the case when worn or whether it is a later distortion prior to deposition. It seems more likely, on the balance of probability and comparison, that it was indeed twisted and later distortion has taken place. One terminal is more clearly finished and has a circular cross-section, the other term is more make-shift and probably does…

Fragment of a sectional copper alloy bracelet. The object has a shallow curve in plan. It has a rounded triangular section with the apex forming the outer surface. At one end there is a circular recess and at the other is a short, circular sectioned projection. The recess and projection form a type mortice and tenon attachment seen on hinged collars of Iron Age date (see Jope E.M. 2000 Early Celtic Art in the British Isles Clarendon Press Oxford, p. 239 - 240). The exterior of the bracelet is decorated with a girthridge flanked by a girth line, a row of dots and another girth line on …

Fragment of Roman copper alloy bracelet (41.4mm in length) with deep grooves and punched ring-and-dot decoration.
The fragment appears to be broken at both ends, although the break at the wider end (7.6mm) is very smooth and almost looks like a deliberate cut. It is also a little on-the-slant.
The fragment is curving in profile and rectangular in section with a smooth underside. It is max.2.4mm thick.
From the narrower end (6.7mm wide, rough-ish break) are two panels each with a large central dot surrounded by two concentric rings. The panels are divided by slightly slanted gr…

A short length of a cast copper alloy bracelet or armlet of late Roman date. The fragment measures 26.18mm by 4.4mm by 0.91mm and weighs 0.83g. It has a uniform width and thickness, a flat rectangular cross section and simple decoration in the form of regular notches along each side. The undamaged end tapers and curves to form a loop, which would have been used to secure the bracelet. Most copper alloy bracelets and armlets date from the third or fourth centuries (Crummy 1983, p. 37).

At one end of the parallel sided strip is a rectangular terminal, 13.7mm in length. At each end of the rectangle the outer surface is decorated with a vertical line of parallel and tightly packed incised nicks. Between these two lines there is a central horizontal line, framed on each side by two dots and a central X. On the other side of the terminal the bracelet narrows slightly. Along the rest of the surviving length of the band there is a horizontal …

There is a small triangle of blue enamel inset on the mid line of the main body of the object, towards the distal end. The point of the triangle is towards the distal end. The back is undecorated. The tang projects from the middle of the wide end of the object in the same plane as the main body. The s…

Fragment of copper alloy bracelet with multiple motifs. There is a circular hole set in a slightly rounded terminal at one end for attachment, probably originally from a hook-and-eye clasp. The bracelet is rectangular in section and has grooved decoration on the front. This comprises two lateral grooves, starting adjacent to the hole, then a longitudinal groove flanked by diagonal notches along each side of the armlet. There is then a lateral groove, band and groove, before a roundel with a central recess. The back is undecorated. It is similar to examples from Colchester (Crummy 1983…
