small to medium late medieval or post-medieval rumbler bell made from sheet copper alloy cut into a quatre-foil design with the leaves folded under to enclose an iron pea, which is missing. the edges of the leaves are traced with a continuous incised line and each leaf is decorated with a series of three incised tapering, vertically arranged chevrons. The upper half of a spherical bell, probably medieval in date. The bell has been cast from copper alloy, which has a high lead content judging by the silvery appearance. The hollow bell would have been spherical in shape, with a diameter of 29.76mm. The surviving half is 26.41mm tall, it weighs 26.64g and its body is around 3.25mm thick. The bell has a rounded integrally cast lug on the apex, 13.39mm by 9.61mm, with central circular hole for suspension. Inside the bell there is a thin loop of copper alloy below the suspension lug which would once have supported the now missing clapper.…
