A complete copper alloy bead of uncertain date, probably Bronze Age to Roman c.AD 43 - 410. The bead is sub-biconical with a central perforation through the centre. A series of striations are present around the perimeter, close to the apex. Similar beads on the database include ESS-975247, SUR-131CBB, ASHM-377F8C, LEIC-3641F5, SOM-DA2D9C although these have a slightly more pronounced conical shape than this example. These examples range in date from Bronze Age to Roman, and therefore a wide date range is suggested for this example. The bead measures 9.6mm in diameter, 4.7mm …

A Probable Roman copper alloy bead, dating to AD 43-410. The bead has a bionical cross section, with a central circular aperture. The outside edge of the bead is moulded into a series of rounded ribs, or gadroons. There are traces of a possible applied white metal wire inlay in the grooves between the ribs. Dimensions: 12.66mm in height; 24.16mm in diameter; 18.8g in weight. Diameter of hole 9.35mm. The bead resembles 'melon' beads more commonly of glass. cf. other copper alloy examples such as GLO-0A5A53, BH-78AF33.

An Iron Age to Early Roman copper alloy bead, probably dating to c. 800 BC - AD 100. The bead is circular in plan and biconical in cross section, with a circumferential ridge emphasised by slight incised lines. The bead has a large, central, circular perforation 6.2mm in diameter. Dimensions: diameter 15.1mm; thickness 7.3mm weight 5.14g. cf. BH-431B44 and SUR-14AA83, amongst others for similar examples on this database. A larger example, but of similar form, was excavated at Camerton and dated to c. 50 BC - AD 50 (Jackson 1990: 48 & plt. 14).

It has a heavy dark green patina which retains traces of possible decoration in the form of moulded cross-hatched ridges on the side faces. The central aperture is circular. A copper-alloy biconical bead of uncertain date, probably dating from the Bronze Age to Roman periods.The bead is decorated with a circumferential rib halfway down and a ridgearount the opening on one face only. There is some wear on one side of the opening in the opposite face. It measures 14.73 mm in diameter and 8.96 mm thick, with an approximate internal diameter of 10 mm; it weighs 6.2 grams.
