A flint awl or piercer of probable Neolithic date. The proximal end is unworked and retains the outer, rounded pebble cortex. Above this on the dorsal face are three long, thin, parallel flaking scars. The distal end has then been worked to a point by retouching both edges from around the mid-point onwards. The object therefore has a rounded butt with a long, thin piercer extending from this, curving downwards slightly and tapering a little towards the end. A cast copper awl of possible Bronze Age date. The awl measures 51.2mm by 6.2mm by 4.9mm and weighs 5.1g. It has a broadly rectangular cross-section and tapers to a blunt point at each end.
