An incomplete Post Medieval pewter handle, probably of a spoon. The top of the handle was likely teardrop shaped, which can be inferred from the teardrop decoration, created by grooves with a dot infill. There is then a pair of incised lines at the point of the teardrop, where the handle extends to its widest point, before tapering until the point where it has been been broken. An etched circle, also with dot infill (larger than that of the teardrop), rests centrally on the edge of the incised lines, with ring and dot decoration in the centre. Two curved grooves extend to the edges of…

A lead alloy sliptop spoon. Broken into two pieces. The stem is oval in cross section with a tapered slip top terminal. The stem has broken away from the bowl where it flattens and starts to flare out. The slightly convex bowl is a broad "fig-shape" and the sides have been folded in in places. There are no visible touch marks. The alloy contains more lead than other metals (probably tin) resulting in it feeling heavy for its size. Date: Early Post Medieval - c. 1500 - 1650 Dimensions (reconstructed): 136.01 mm x 46.05 mm x 1.65 mm Weight: 67.57 g
