A very worn and corroded iron dove type horseshoe of the Medieval period. The right branch has two obvious nail holes and possibly a third at the well-worn toe end. The right branch tapers at the heel. The left branch has three nail holes, one of which retains a bent over nail, and the heel has only a slight taper. There is no evidence of calkins. The nail holes are deeply recessed, rectangular, and are suited for T-Shaped nails of the period.A probable saddle-shoe.

A worn and corroded iron guildhall type horseshoe of the Medieval period. The shoe has an arched frog and rectangular nail holes. The left branch tapers to a point and has three nail holes. The right branch is shorter, with a 90 degree calkin, two obvious nail holes and the edge of the third hole.
Ivan G Sparkes notes that this type is from a draught-horse shoe, but this example is smaller and much lighter and although it shares the attributes of the larger shoe, it is probably for a saddle horse.

A complete iron bridle snaffle bit of probable Medieval to Post Medieval date. The bit consists of a linked mouth-piece with a circular cheek piece at either end. The bit has been constructed with a circular bar, flattened at either end and turned over to form the loop. The cheek-pieces are sub-circular in plan. The mouth-piece middle link is seized with corrosion, the two cheek-pieces remain free within the attachment loops. Length of linked Bits: 76.60 mm and 67.81 mm. Diameter of bit 7.68 mm. Diameter of cheek-pieces 64.92 mm and 64.49 mm. Cheek-piece bar 6.65 mm x 4.53 mm.

A complete iron horseshoe of probable early 14th century date. The left branch has three rectangular nail holes with one square headed nail surviving. The right branch has three rectangular nail holes. The heels are thickened with no evidence of calkins. A probable light saddle shoe. The only surviving square-headed nail is much larger than the rectangular holes .

A Medieval iron barrel padlock case of Goodall's Type D (in Biddle, 1990), with a hinged shackle, locked and corroded in place. The spring and bolt are enclosed within the case. Barrel padlocks with shackles (Type D) were intended to secure human or animal limbs (Goodall 1990 p.1001). Examples from Winchester date from the late 10th to early 15th century.

The knife has a short blade ( 25 mm ) and longer, narrower tang (35mm) with parallel sides and flat surfaces.
Whittle-tang knives were used over a long period of time, from Early-Medieval to the post-Medieval periods. This example is probably from the Early-Medieval period. For parallels on the PAS database, see HAMP- 5F3322 and LEIC-5E2151.

A corroded iron frame from a post-Medieval two-piece buckle.
The frame is sub-rectangular in plan, having rounded corners and a rhomboidal cross section. There is only a remnant of the iron axis bar, contained within a hole in the frame.

A forged iron latch, dating from the post-Medieval period and probably from a door or window.
The latch has been hand forged from a rectangular bar which would have been approximately 14 mm x 6 mm. The roundel has been hammered out very thinly and has a tapered profile. The loop end has a circular 10 mm hole and the metal is waisted at this point, suggesting a punch was used. Much of the hook end is missing, but the remaining portion shows the bar was narrowed and probably drawn to a point. Dimensions are: Length 102 mm, Diameter of roundel 57.5, Weight 54 grams.

A forged iron latch from a door or window, probably dating from the post-Medieval period.
The latch has been hand forged from a bar with rectangular cross section, measuring approximately 12mm wide by 7 mm high. One third of the way along from the hook end is a roundel which has been hammered out and has a tapered profile. There is a section of this roundel missing, due to corrosion. The attachment end has a sub-circular loop hole of c.10mm diameter .The hook end is narrowed and bent downwards at 90 degrees. This latch was found in close proximity with two others.

A corroded medieval iron horseshoe fragment of the wavy-rimmed type (Clark type 2B) (c. 12th-13th century). This fragment forms part of the left branch with two oval nail holes and calkin present. Ivan G Sparkes (9-10) notes that this would of been attached with fiddle-headed nails and although they sat within the countersunk depressions, the nail heads still protruded by almost half their length.

An iron double oval Post-Medieval buckle. The frame has a slightly recessed central strap bar. The pin remains in situ, although its tip is now missing. In Meols (2007, p.189) it is suggested that double oval buckles, which are occasionally iron such as this one, are usually of mid-14th to as late as 17th century date.
