A gold Iron Age Gallo-Belgic quarter stater, dating to the period c.80-60 BC, Gallo-Belgic D / Boat Tree type. Obverse: Boat with two occupants? Pellet to left. Reverse: Tree-like motif, wedge shaped line to either side, forked line below.  The weight of this coin, combined with the pellet in obverse field and wedge shaped motifs in reverse field suggest that this is probably a Gallo-Belgic D rather than an insular British type. Reference: ABC 2205 Date: Late Iron Age Diameter: 11.45 mm Weight: 1.06 g Die axis: 6 Although the coin is rather light for a gold quarter stater, the weights of the BM coin ranging from 1.33 to 1.53g. It is closer to the weights for silver pieces which range from 0.76 to 1.46g. However, the colour of the coin does appear to be pale gold.
