A sherd of externally glazed earthernware pottery. The fabric is reduced pale grey at the core with orange-red oxidised margins. It is tempered with abundant fine sand and sparse grog. The sherd is quite abraded The sherd has an external cordon and flanking groove around the girth. There is an internal shoulder, probably a lid seat. The exterior is decorated with vertical bands of trailed off-white slip with traces of green glaze over. Probably a sherd from a jug.  Date: Late Medieval - c.1400 - 1500 Weight: 19 g

A small bodysherd of a Medieval vessel dating to c. AD 1100-1500.  The fabric is a hard fired, rough and sandy with abundant translucent grey/white sandy quartz inclusions.  The outer surface is a buff colour and smooth with a row of vertical rouletted lines (and possibly a second row just visible).  The inner surface is a darker buff colour with some patches of darker grey and is rough and gritty.  The core is a darker unoxidised grey. A base sherd from a Roman Oxfordshire red slipped ware vessel dating to the period c. AD 240 - 410. The sherd consists of part of a circular foot ring with edges terminating in old breaks. The fabric is orange in colour. It exhibits mica inclusions. The surfaces are coated in a smooth orange-red slip which has been heavily abraded. A fragment of a Roman ceramic vessel base, dating to c AD260 - 400. It is a hard grey fabric, without inclusions. There is evidence of a dark grey or brown wash. The base is circular, with a short pedestal which flares out to a short section of circular body before early damage caused the rest of the vessel to break away. A fragment of Late Medieval Wessex coarseware ceramic rim, dating to c. AD 1200-1400. This fragment is sub rectangular in shape with a very narrow rim which is incomplete in some areas. The fabric is a cream colour and fairly smooth in texture. No obvious inclusions visible. A small Medieval ceramic body sherd, dating to c. AD 1000-1100. The find is a sub-triangular shape, pale orange colour in the inside and a lighter shade of orange on the outer body. It has a coarse, gritty fabric with many tiny flint inclusions and a possible iron stain on the inner surface, plus a small void on the outer surface. An incomplete Medieval ceramic handle dating to c. AD 1200-1300. The find appears to be the top part of a handle as there is a thumb indentation where it joins the vessel wall. The opposite end is lost due to an old break. The handle is made from a pale fired fabric, pale pink in colour with no visible inclusions. A fragment of Medieval partly glazed clay ridge tile, dating to c AD 1200 - 1450. The fabric is very coarse, red/pink with a dark grey core in places and with crushed shell and large sooty black inclusions. The underside is convex where it would lie on the ridge itself, with an angular crest (four-sided pyramid) as its apex.
