A group of seven Post Medieval Verwood ware sherds, dating to the period cAD 1600-1900. The group comprises two rim sherds, one handle sherd, one base sherd and three body sherds.
The fabric of the two rim sherds is hard, and light orange-pink in colour. A green-yellow glaze is on one of the rim surfaces, possibly a plate, while the other, sturdier vessel, has a pale orange glaze . The breaks are worn.
The base sherd has a hard, light orange coloured fabric, with some small micacerous inclusions. The interior surface has a hard green-orange glaze while the outer surface is …

A rim sherd of Post-medieval red ware bowl, dating to the period c.AD 1500-1700. The fabric is hard, mid-orange in colour at the surface, and cream-brown at the core. It has abundant, moderately well sorted small black, grey and red inclusions. The breaks are worn.
The sherd measures 108.77mm in length, 43.22mm in width, 15.86mm in thickness and weighs 70.96g.

An incomplete Post-Medieval clay pipe, dating to AD 1670 - 1710. Most of the bowl and stem are missing. The stem is oval shaped and has a circular hole in its centre. The stem flares out into the bowl, most of which is missing. The heel of the pipe is stamped with a heart, inside are the raised initals of IM, which possibly can be attributed to John Mandifield, a maker in Sherbourne.

An incomplete Post-Medieval clay tobacco pipe, dating to AD 1660 - 1690. The stem is missing. The front of the bowl is black and the remainder is an off white colour. The rim of the bowl is decorated with rouletting. The heel of the bowl is stamped with a raised 'H', a similar example is recorded from Blandford in Watkins (1966) p 227 fig 11 no 2.

Fragment one has a has an oxidised pale pink core with a buff exterior margin. The glaze is orange-brown with yellow mottles.

A sherd of Post Medieval earthenware pottery with internal glaze. East Dorset (Verwood) industry. The fabric is sandy and originally oxidised to a buff colour. It has since become a reduced grey as a result of secondary firing during use in a hearth. The internal surface is glazed dark green. A base sherd from a tripod footed cooking vessel, probably a pipkin. There is the scar from the loss of one of the feet at the edge of the flat base.

Three sherds of post medieval glazed red earthenwares. All are probably from the Holnest (West Dorset) or Donyatt (South Somerset) industries.

A large fragment of ceramic ridge tile. The fabric is reduced dark grey at the core with oxidised orange to red-brown marginns. It contains abundant sand and occasional ironstone pieces. It is highly fired. The tile is an obtuse V-shape in profile and has a pair of deep indentations on the exterior of the apex. One end of the tile retains the finished, flattened edge.The undereside is coarse with sandy surface. Handmade.

One post-medieval sherd of internally glazed erthern ware pottery, dating to AD 1500-1650. The fabric is oxidised buff with moderate quartz sand temper. The interior surface is slipped and glazed. The slip is cream coloured and the glaze is bright green. A rim sherd from a jar or bowl. The rim is plain with a deep external bead. There are girth grooves externally surface below the rim. It is wheelthrown with very little abrasion.

A fragment of glazed tile. On corner of survives with degraded and over-fired lead glaze (yellow-green with burnt purple areas) on the glazing on the upper surface and along one edge. The underside does not retain much of the original surface and there is a possible keying indentation. The fabric is coarse with fine sand temper and occasional stone inclusions and voids. It is largely oxidised red, but at the margins under the glaze it has reduced to a dark grey. The fabric, as with the glaze, appears over-fired.

Two sherds of glazed pottery. Similar in decorative style to South Somerset (Donyatt) wares, but possible from the industry centered around Holnest in Dorset (unpublished). The fabric is highly fired with a pale grey reduced core and oxidised ornage-red margins. The interior surfaces are slipped with wet sgraffito decoration under an amber and green lead glaze. The decoration comprises circumferential lines around the rim with a wavy line over the top, and vertical and horizontal lines in groups below the rim. Both sherds are flared rims from open bowls. An incomplete clay tobacco pipe. The bowl only of a "Jonas" or "Walter Raleigh" type from the Netherlands. The bowl is decorated with a rearward facing human face with one annulet eye and one oval, eyebrows, large ears, a wide, drooping nose and upturned moustache. The rear of the bowl is decorated with short curving lines to indicate hair.

A single large sherd from a handled vessel commonkly known as a "bucket" pot. The fabric is reduced at the core with orange-red oxidisation at the margins and a grey-brown reduced surface. It is fairly smooth with fine sand temper, There are traces of dull green glaze, mainly confined to the inner surface of the rim. A rim sherd with a stub of a handle.
