A small bodysherd of a Medieval vessel dating to c. AD 1100-1500.  The fabric is a hard fired, rough and sandy with abundant translucent grey/white sandy quartz inclusions.  The outer surface is a buff colour and smooth with a row of vertical rouletted lines (and possibly a second row just visible).  The inner surface is a darker buff colour with some patches of darker grey and is rough and gritty.  The core is a darker unoxidised grey. A complete copper alloy annular ring, possibly a harness ring, of unknown date but most likely Medieval to Post Medieval in date, c AD 1100 - 1800. It is a rough oval in section, and there are mould marks opposite each other on the outer edge. It has a mottled green patina. Dimensions: 29.5mm in diameter;  4.4mm in width;  2.4mm thick;  4.76g in weight. These are common detector finds, but their function and dating are not well understood (Geake, Finds Recording Guide, page 54)
