Object type: SHOT
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Dorset
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A group of 22 lead shot dating to the period c. AD 1700-1800.
The weights range from 27.32g - 30.95g per shot, and accounting for a small amount of weight loss during firing or from aggressive soil conditions, most then fall into the calibre for 18th century muskets (c. 14 1/2 bore). All are round ball type shot, and all show some evidence of firing (varying banding, gouging, powder pitting and some examples of impact deformation). Diameters range between 17.03mm - 19.84mm, with most falling in the 17mm - 18mm group.
