An incomplete Roman copper alloy strip brooch, dating to c. AD 40-50. Mackreth DURO type 5b. The brooch comprises the head, bow, and most of the catchplate. The pin is missing. The remainder of the brooch is formed of a single flat strip which splays out towards the rounded bottom. An incomplete copper-alloy artefact, probably a spoon-probe for medical or cosmetic use or a drop handle furniture fitting. The shaft has a central circular cross section with a diameter of 5.22 mm. At one broken end the cross section is sub-rectangular and has a diameter of 3.35 mm. From this point the shaft expands into three sets of three ribs, in between these are four waisted areas.
