"Several coins of the House of Theodosius" found in the fills of oven 4 in Building 1 in the Somerleigh Court excavations of 1969-1970. This assemblage (of unknown number) has been treated separately from hoard IARCH-D61D2D ((Robertson 2000, 410 no. 1644) coins from the rubble layer of the same building) although in the publication of that hoard by Cooke (2007, 7) he has treated them as one hoard: "However, using the published coin list (Patrick Greene 1993, 93), it is possible to suggest the likely composition of this hoard. In order to do this, only coins recovered from rubble conte…

29 3rd-century coins of Gallienus, Victorinus, Tetricus I & II. Scattered along the bottom of an internal drain in building 2170. Dated by the excavators to AD 290, presumably on the basis of the barbarous radiate, though this could be earlier (listed as "reverse Pax" by Reece in Woodward et al. 116). Woodward et al. 1993. Excavations at Greyhound Yard, Dorchester 1981-4. DNHAS Mono. 12, pp. 62, 82, 116, figs 23, 30, plate 30. Building 2170

Hoard from the excavated Town House at Colliton Park, Dorchester (excavated 1937-8 and published in Durham and Fulford 2014, 59). Nine coins were found near the East door of room 13, building 182. However in revaluation (ibid) these were thought to be a residual scatter. In his report, Reece (same volume p.103) notes the presence of this hoard and 5 others identified by Mark Corney (two first to third century and three Theodosian). However his report does not attribute these hoard coins to particular hoards and they are therefore difficult to reconstruct. The latest coin in this ho…

296 AE radiates to AD 286. The coins were 1.5ft below the plough soil with no visible signs of a container. A circular, corroded stud with a narrow band and possible inscription was also discovered with the hoard. This is believed to be Medieval or post-Medieval and, as such, is not considered part of the hoard. A farthing (Seaby, 3992) was also found with the coins during conservation. Addenda of 618 coins found in 2104 added here. Treasure numbers associated with this hoard: 2013 T221; 2014 T962 Other PAS records associated with this hoard: DOR-D49090
