A large flint hammerstone. A rounded, sub-speroidal piece of mid grey-brown flint with a low gloss patina and iron staining. There are areas of use wear (battering) on much of the surface around the "equator" of the speroid with a few areas on the "poles" where the object was held in use. A ground and polished stone axehead dating to 4000-2350 BC. Made from a fairly coarse grained metamorphic rock (probably a schist) with visible mica pieces and greyish green in colour. The axehead is small and sub-triangular in shape. It has been ground and polished to a smooth finish. Chipping and crush damage along the cutting edge suggest the object was heavily used prior to loss or discard. The cross section of the axehead is pointed oval. The dorsal face exhibits 6 negative flake scars from previous flake removal, one of which terminates in a hinge fracture. The proximal end has a large striking platform, and a bulb of percussion is present on the ventral face, as well as two parallel flake scars from flake removal. The flint is grey-brown in colour with white inclusions. The debitage measures 43.91mm in length, 26.54mm in width, 9.88mm in thickness and weighs 14.44g.
