An Early Medieval Silver early penny (sceat) of Secondary Phase Series E (variety A) dating to c. AD 720-740. Minted in the Low Countries. Abramson (2006: 86) E140. Similar to Metcalf (1993: Plate 13), nos. 225 & 227 but with extra transverse bar on obverse. North (1994: 61) no. 48.

An Early Medieval silver sceat, Series E, Metcalf Variety C-related / Metcalf and Op den Velde sub-variety h, c.AD 710-750. The coin belongs to the highly varied Secondary phase of Series E production, and this coin is most akin to Metcalf and Op den Velde nos. 2088-2092.
The obverse depicts a quilled crescent with a triangular head. There are two pellets on the crescent above the triangular head. Between the head and the crescent is a saltire and below this on the edge of the flan is an annulet.
