A cast copper-alloy late Anglo-Saxon stirrup terminal of circa 11th century date. The terminal is roughly in the form of a half cylinder, the moulded decoration on the upper surface depicting a forward-facing beast's head in the form that is influenced by late Viking art ( Ringerike and Urnes styles). The back is U-shaped with evidence of lead solder where it would have been attached to the bottom of the stirrup. The recessed back of the terminal enclosed the arm and concealed the foot-bar attachment joint. It measures 31 mm in length, 12 mm in width and has a thickness of 2.1 mm. It …

A circular gilded copper-alloy mount dating to the early-medieval period, perhaps the 8th or 9th centuries. Gilding survives on the front and on the edge; the flat reverse is ungilded. There is no obvious means of fixing or attachment. The design of the mount is based on a (missing) central setting with three bosses around which are tight, fine-line 'watch-spring' spirals. In between the bosses the spirals expand from lines to flaring chip-carved trumpets; the chip-carving is very bold. Where two flared ends meet there is a possible transverse ridge (the photo is unclear) which is …

An early medieval silver penny of AEthelwulf of Wessex(839-58); moneyer: Manning; mint:Rochester, c. 846-9; Naismith R30.3/North 603 (obverse) / Naismith R30.2/North 613 (reverse). This coin appears to to mule the obverse type of the previously unique coin listed by Naismith under R30.3 with the reverse of the portrait type R30.2. A similar combination of obverse and reverse designs is seen on a different Aethelwulf coin from Rochester under the moneyer Dunn (Naismith R25.2/North 604) although the spelling used on both obverse and reverse match the two Manning coins. An incomplete copper-alloy buckle of late early-medieval date, and of Naylor Class A2i. It is D-shaped, with a protruding animal head central on the outer edge acting as a pin rest through a V-shaped nick between its ears. At the two apexes there would have been a further protruding animal head, smaller then the one on the outer edge; one is missing, along with the majority of the pin bar which it would have abutted. The pin bar appears to be rod-like, as with other buckles of this type, with a circular cross-section. Further damage has been suffered to the extant side with animal hea…
