A late early-medieval openwork copper-alloy zoomorphic mount, possibly from a strap or horse harness, dating to the 11th century AD. An early medieval strap link of Anglo-Scandinavian origin, dating to AD 1000-1100.
The link is composed of two circular loops, one of which is filled in with iron corrosion. They form the terminals of a pair of arms which are D-shaped in profile, and are joined by a raised circular central boss. The two loops have bevelled edges.
According to Williams, 'Anglo Scandinavian Horse Harness fittings' (2007, p1), these harness links are Anglo-Scandinavian in origin and derive from the Viking Ringerike style, as seen on examples where the boss is a distinct…

Broad period: EARLY MEDIEVAL
County: Dorset
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A complete lead alloy spindle whorl of Early Medieval date, c. AD 500-1000.
The object is circular in shape and domed in cross section, with a flattened lower surface and convex upper surface. The upper surface is noticably smoothed, with this effect somewhat diminished by post depositional cracking. It is now a pale grey in colour due to patinisation. In the centre is a perforated aperture which is 6mm in diameter.
The flat lower surface and domed upper surface conform with Walton Rogers form A1, thought to be consistent with usage between AD 500 and 1000. The small size spindl…

An early Medieval lead-filled copper alloy pan weight, probably dating to c. AD 950-1150. The weight consists of a lead-filled copper alloy sheath; it is circular in plan, with either face decorated with an openwork saltire of two opposing arches. The arches are further elaborated with an incised line following the arc, with the two lines joined at the centre by two further incised transverse lines, creating a central sub-square field, possibly intended as a rudimentary union knot. The weight is sub-rectangular in cross-section with rounded edges, and the lateral face is plain.

An early-medieval copper-alloy strap-end of Thomas' Class E, Type 1, decorated in the Winchester Style, probably dating to c. 900-1100.
The strap-end is tongue shaped, with a slightly pointed terminal. At the attachment end the strap-end bifurcates (splits) transversely, with two parallel cast projections to retain the strap, undecorated, but with a slightly recessed rectangular transverse band on the front, and three roughly equally spaced circular rivet holes; none of the rivets survive.
Below the attachment end the strap-end is cast into a symmetrical openwork design depictin…
