A copper alloy French jetton of Tournai, dating from the Medieval period, AD1415 - 1500. The obverse carries a crown within a wire line circle, surrounded by the legend AV[E MA]RIA GRA[CIA L]. On the reverse is a double-voided cross fleuretty within a double tressure of four arches. In the centre of the cross is a voided quatrefoil and there is a flower of three petals in each of the angles. There is no reverse legend. The jetton is  22.42mm in diameter and 1.2mm thick. A complete copper alloy coin weight for a gold noble of medieval date (AD 1412-1464). The object is a discoidal, uniface weight. The upper surface is decorated with a stamped motif depicting a single masted and standing rigging clinker-built ship (cog) left, with a lis above the fore castle and a lion passant guardant above the after castle. The design indicates it is for the noble or its fractions. Withers and Withers (1994:19) describe such weights as British and dates them to the 15th or 16th centuries.
