Two small abraded sherds of late medieval sand tempered coarse ware pottery. Both have light orange oxidsed surfaces and margins, and a buff coloured core. The faintest trace of glaze survives on the external surfaces. One sherd has a well formed dark green lead glaze over grey slip, the other has amber glaze, not visible to the naked eye, over a buff wiped surface. The fabric is tempered with abundant well sorted and rounded quartz grains less than 0.1mm in diameter, and occasional small iron oxide. Their provenance and colour suggest an origin in the Donyatt Potteries and they are si…

A small abraded sherd of medieval coarse ware pottery. It has a light orange oxidsed surface and a grey core. The fabric is tempered with abundant poorly sorted rounded quartz grains measuring 0.5-1.0mm in diameter, and frequent angular chert, flint and limestone inclusions up to 4.5mm. The provenance and colour suggests an origin in the Donyatt Potteries and the fabrics are similar to Donyatt fabric type DPT 1 (13th century). However, the form suggests that this sherd was part of the neck of a jug, a form not common in Donyatt until the 14th century. Maximum dimension 33.28mm, weigh…

A copper alloy angel (ten shillings) coin weight from the reign of Charles I. The circular coin weight has a diameter of 17.6mm, a thickness of 2.4mm and weighs 3.76g. Its original weight would have been 4.2g (Withers and Withers 1995, p. 14). On the obverse there is a crown with X, for ten, and s for shillings beneath. On the reverse is a depiction of an angel. The coin weight must date from between the start of the reign of Charles I in 1625 and 1642, when the angel denomination ceased to be issued (Withers and Withers 1995, p. 68).
