A cast lead lead alloy object, possibly a token but also possibly a weight of late medieval date, c. AD 1500 - 1600. The object is discoid, with both surfaces decorated. One face has an outer border of pellets, then within a solid circle, two initials possibly W A. The other surface has a similar border of pellets, then a circle enclosing design obscured by abrasion, possibly florate with interlaced letters. Diameter 24 mm, thickness 3 mm and weight 11.3 g. Biggs and Withers (2000) illustrate a number of round, decorated weights. It is possible this object is a Tudor h…

A cast lead alloy weight, probable spindle whorl of late medieval to post medieval date (c. AD 1300 - 1700). The weight is an irregular hexagonal shape, with traces of an outer rim, which suggests the hexagonal shape is intentional rather than a casting error or denting. The weight has one flat and one convex face. The convex face may have had moulded decoration but is very abraded and damaged with dents and gouges, probably post-depositional, so this is difficult to confirm. There is a sub-circular, off centre perforation, 7 mm diameter.  Diameter 23 mm, height 5.8 mm and w…

A lead alloy steelyard weight, probably of Roman date (c. AD 43 - 410). The object is roughly spherical but has several dents and deep gouges, and flattened facets probably due to post depositional damage. The iron wire suspension loop survives. The object weighs 216.4 g, comparable to the 219 g of the Bessis, 2/3 of a Roman pound. Diameter 31mm and height 39 mm.

A complete lead weight, likely a net or loom weight, dating from the Roman to the post medieval periods (c AD 43 - 1700). The weight is cylindrical in shape with a central channel which is also circular, this is set slightly off centre. External surface smooth and unblemished.  Lead weights are difficult to date securely or assign to specific tasks without archaeological context, as they change very little and thus a wide date range is suggested. The form of these weights has been suggested as reflecting those utilised for fishing or as net sinkers, though thi…

A cast lead object, probably a pan weight of medieval to post medieval date (c. AD 1400 - 1600). The object has the form of a flat-bottomed domed disc; the upper surface appears to have moulded decoration, possibly a sexfoil surrounded by pellets, however the surface is abraded and dented and the decoration is not clear. The bottom surface is flat and undecorated, there is a central perforation, now blocked, 2 mm in diameter. The object currently weighs 144.5 g, possibly this was originally 1/3 Avoirdupois pound. Diameter 45 mm and height 12 mm.
