Fragment of a probable copper alloy Roman plate brooch, inlaid with enamel, dating to the 2nd century AD (100-200AD). The object is oval in plan and slightly convex on the outer face. There is a break at the top and bottom of the object.  This suggests that the object could be a large roundel from the centre of a brooch bow.  It is decorated on the outer face with a series of concentric circular cells, the largest of which contains blue enamel or glass. The inner circles appear to contain degraded enamel or glass, which is a rusty brown colour. The reverse is plain.  …

The terret survives only as a fragment and presents a curved D-shape bar with a raised moulding that terminates in a won break. An almost complete copper alloy Roman brooch of the Wirral type dating to c.AD 100-200. The brooch is almost complete, missing just the hinge mechanism and pin. It presents a stepped head the top of which connects to the headloop.
