A Medieval or Post Medieval (12th to mid 19th centuries) leg from a cooking vessel such as a cauldron or skillet. The leg has a broadly triangular cross section with an oval foot and slightly damaged upper edge. The internal face is flat and the external face has a rounded outer edge to resemble a foot. The surface has a mottled mid to dark green coloured patina. Egan (1998) comments that commonly used cooking vessels in the Medieval period include skillets, ewers, and cauldrons. This foot would have been one of three on a complete vessel. Parallels recorded on the PAS dat…

A complete, copper alloy, heavy duty, domed thimble of probable Medieval date (AD 1400-1550). The thimble has sloping sides and a closed, domed top. There are a number of indentations (holes) on the surface, arranged, fairly evenly in concentric circles. The holes are quite small in diameter, indicating the thimble's use for fairly fine work, despite the thickness of the walls. The placement and variation in size of the holes suggest that they were hand punched rather than machined. There is a raised rim around the bottom of the thimble. Equally spaced notches cut into the bottom of t…
