A near complete flint blade of probable later Mesolithic date (6500BC - 4500BC). The flint tool is broadly sub-rectangular in plan and D shaped in cross section; it has been abraded in the ploughsoil. It is formed on a tertiary flake and there is no cortex present. The bulb of percussion is lost due to a break across the lower half of the blade that has removed the bulb and the striking platform. It is possible this edge has been trimmed as small areas of retouch is present. The dorsal face shows areas of clear flake removals and the direction of these removals may indicate that this …

A near complete flint blade of probable late Mesolithic date (6500BC - 4500BC). The flint tool is broadly sub-rectangular in plan and sub-triangular in cross section; it has been abraded in the ploughsoil. It is formed on a primary flake. The bulb of percussion is present on the ventral face, although the striking platform has been lost to modern abrasion. The dorsal face is covered with 50% cortex which is a grey white colour. The long edges of each side of the blade have been retouched with relatively crude and disorganised secondary flaking - this is most evident on the ventral fac…

A possible Levalloisian core flake / blade of most probable Neolithic date. The blade is rectangular in plan with a lenticular cross-section. The lower edge is broken - most probably in antiquity as the whole flint has the same mid-grey coloured milky surface patina. The flaking appears intentionally to have shaped the flint while still on the original core, creating a distinctive 'tortoise shell' flaking, typical of Levallois flint technology. The ventral face shows a prominent bulb of percussion indicating probable use of a hard hammer, likewise the striking platform is well prepare…

Five complete and snapped flint blades or bladlets of later Mesolithic date (6000BC - 3500BC). These blades are struck from a core and have the generic crested appearance on their dorsal faces. Many of the blades have been deliberately snapped through the removal of side notches and deliberate breaking. The underside / ventral face of each shows conchoidal rippling and some have evidence of bulb of percussion and / or striking platforms. All the blades have some form of retouch along their long edges - this is best described as being disorganised short, sub-parallel, semi-abrupt which…

Two abraded tertiary debitage waste flakes struck from a core during the later Mesolithic period (6500-3500 BC). The two blades are broadly a rectangular shape in plan and both have distinctive dorsal crests. In both cases the retouch has been applied to the one surviving original long edge on the dorsal face only; here it creates a crescent shaped removal which is reworked with retouch that is best described as short, sub-parallel and semi-abrupt. Such notches are associated with functional tools to strip material from a curved surface such as arrow shafts or tool handles. The flint …

A long broad blade like flake of probable later Neolithic date (4500-2500 BC). The blade is broadly rectangular in plan and in section with a distinct 'backed' dorsal ridge - it is from the secondary preparation of a core. A very small area of mid-cream coloured cortex is present on the dorsal face. The ventral face shows conchoidal ripples but the bulb of percussion and striking platform have been removed through snapping. Both long edges and the tip have been extensively retouched. The dorsal face has also had significant areas of retouch. This level of retouch is unusual on blades …

Five (5) snapped blade / bladelets of probable Mesolithic date (6500-3500 BC). All have been struck from larger prepared cores but their long edges have not been reworked. All have been burnt in a fire - possibly suggesting this waste has been utilised as pot boilers. All have a white coloured patina which is crazed through heat cracking. The largest blade measures: 19.5mm length, 16.5mm width, is 5.5mm thick and weighs 2.5 grams. The smallest blade measures: 11.0mm length, 13.3mm width, is 2.8mm thick and weighs 0.7 grams. The five microliths have a bulk weight of 6.8 grams

Mesolithic to Neolithic (c. 7000 to 2350BC) debitage: A blade knapped from flint. The flake is triangular in section. The dorsal surface has two vertical scars and the ventral surface has traces of conchoidal ripples and a small bulb of percussion. The surface has a white patina which has a dark grey flint. It measures 25.74mm long, 9.83mm wide, 3.79mm thick and weighing 0.95g. The blade probably dates to the Mesolithic to Neolithic periods, c. 7000 to 2350BC.

Mesolithic to Neolithic (c. 7000 to 2350BC) debitage: A blade knapped from flint. The blade is trapezoidal in section. The dorsal surface has three vertical scars and the ventral surface has traces of conchoidal ripples. The proximal end is missing, but the patina which covers the surface also covers the break. One on lateral edge there is a small portion of damage rather than re-touch revealing a dark grey flint. It measures 31.88mm long, 14.11mm wide, 3.39mm thick and weighing 2.17g. The blade probably dates to the Mesolithic to Neolithic periods, c. 7000 to 2350BC.

An incomplete snapped flint blade of probable later Mesolithic or early Neolithic date (6000BC - 3500BC). The flint tool, probably best described as a knife, is broadly sub-rectangular in plan and sub-triangular (crested) in cross section. The blade has been snapped un the upper and lower edges. The bulb of percussion and striking / knapping platform are lost on the lower (ventral) face. The upper (dorsal) face of the blade has a number of clear facets and ridges. A small fragment from the upper part of a snapped long sub-rectangular bladelet of later Mesolithic or early Neolithic date (4500 - 2800 BC). The bladelet is heavily rolled and abraded; it has vertical removals on the dorsal face and conchoidal ripples on the ventral. There is no retouch present. The proximal end has the remains of a prepared knapping platform. The flint is very coarse being a light brown grey colour with slightly crystalline (cherty) structure. The bladelet measures 20.0mm length, 23.4mm width, is 8.8mm thick and weighs 4.3 grams.

PAS-RC07 Grid A2 A small snapped blade of later Mesolithic date (5500 - 3500 BC). The blade is broadly rectangular in plan and rhomboid in section. The upper dorsal face has a series of linear flake scars present created by the removal of other blades from the core. The reverse (ventral) shows conchoidal fractures, bulb of percussion and striking platform. The blade was originally much longer but the lower part is now lost / detached possibly via flaking in the Mesolithic. The two long edges both exhibit retouch creating serrated edges. Two flint blades of later Mesolithic date (4000 -3000 BC). Both blades are rectangular in plan and have crested (triangular shaped) cross sections. They are also both small but complete showing prepared striking platform and bulb of percussion. The larger blade is a mid black grey colour; the long edges show no signs of retouch (although they are abraded in the plough soil). The base of the dorsal face shows a distinct overhang where the removal of the previous blade had left a small projection caused by a hinge fracture. The smaller blade a mid brown grey colour and has a is distinct…
