The wing caps are incomplete and the axis bar and spring are lost. A cast copper alloy stylus (Manning Type 4) of probable earlier Roman date (80-200 AD). The stylus has been bent from its original sub-rectangular shape with a bend of approximately 45 degrees at the mid point and a further bend of 90 degrees at the nib / point. Like many styli this example consists of a relatively small flat wedge shaped eraser terminal (rubber) a long stem with 'turned' moulded decoration below the mid-point which then tapers to a very sharp point.
