A complete copper alloy Roman kräftig-profilierte type brooch dating to AD 43-100. The brooch is broadly P-shaped in profile, with all components including the spring and pin complete. Above the upper bow is the chord which is held by a rearward facing hook above a wide crossbar. The spring consists of eight turns with the central turn extending to form the pin. Roman brooch of Colchester derivative, Polden Hill (Mackreth 2011, Part 3, Group 5a3, flat wing ends type), c.f. Mackreth Type 5a3, Plate 49, AD c. 75-400. A heavily corroded and broken Polden Hill type Roman brooch dated to (c.AD 70-240). The bow is missing it's lower section and catch plate, the pin is also missing. The wings are intact and the end plates are pierced - they hold the copper alloy axis bar. The spring is also mostly intact and remains of five turns survive wrapped around the axis bar are present, an external chord passes through a drilled hole in a central rib on the head of the brooch.
