Object type: TOY
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: County of Herefordshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Cast lead alloy (possibly pewter) toy / miniature dish of probable post medieval date (1600-1800 AD). The plate is cast in one piece; it has a slight raised foot ring that expands out into a slightly faceted bowl / dish which is decorated both on the external and internal faces. The best preserved design is present on the internal face where the base of the dish is decorated with five pellets (forming a flower) around a larger central pellet. The edges of the bowl are decorated with radiating lines which divide the plate into even wedges. The panel wedges are further decorated but thi…

A cast copper alloy double looped buckle of post-medieval date (1550-1650). The buckle frame is complete and is broadly sub-rectangular in plan with a slight integrally cast central bar to which a pin would have been attached. The pin is lost but would have been attached to the central bar by the terminal being folded back upon itself. A notch is present on the internal edge of the left hand frame which would have acted as a pin rest. The frame of the buckle is decorated with a series of cast linear patterns at the mid point of the loop on both edges. The decoration is limited to the …

Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A tinned cast copper alloy or pewter buckle of post-medieval date (1660-1720). The frame of the buckle is oval in plan with two central drilled holes to which an iron (assumed from encased orange corrosion product adhering to the inner surface of the frame) axis bar would have fixed. The pin which would have fitted to this bar is also missing. Remains of an iron chape are present although encased within corrosion product. In profile the frame is slightly bowed. A small notch is present on the left hand edge of the frame; this would have acted as a recessed pin rest. There is no d…

A cast copper alloy buckle of post-medieval date (1690-1720). The frame of the buckle is sub-rectangular in plan with two central drilled holes to which a copper alloy chape is fixed; from the abundant iron corrosion the drilled pin on which the chape fits is formed of iron. In profile the frame is slightly bowed. There is no evidence of a pin rest on the frame. There is also no decoration. The buckle is mid silvery grey green colour, which may suggest that it had been tinned. Similar copper alloy examples to this buckle can be seen in Ross Whitehead's book 'Buckles 1250 - 1800', page…
