A small sherd from the rim of a vessel of probable medieval (1150-1300) date. The external and internal faces of the sherd are sooted and so most likely to be from a cooking pot. The fabric of the sherd is a relatively hard earthenware with a number of small angular and sub-angular grit, grog and coal inclusions. There is also a large amount of mica in the fabric. The fabric colour of the sherd is a mid grey colour. The rim if fragmentary but has an out-turned swollen lip and is heavily recessed. The base of the pot is likely to be relatively flat possibly suggesting that it may also be utilised as a serving dish. Two conjoining sherds joined by finder to form a relatively large body sherd from the neck or upper side wall of a large vessel of probable medieval (1250-1350) date. The vessel is most likely to be a tubby jug or similar large serving vessel. The external face of the sherd is glazed with a light yellowish green colour glaze which covers the whole of the external face. The glaze is patchy in places and seems to have been applied by dipping with vertical streaks / run marks being present. A very thin body sherd from the side wall of a vessel of probable medieval (1250-1350) date. The fineness of this sherd suggests a high status function. The external face of the sherd is glazed with a relatively thin patchy yellowish green coloured glaze which covers the whole of the surface. The glaze is uniform in nature; where it has been abraded in the soil the oxidised orange colour of the pottery shows through.
