Knapped flint scraper of later Neolithic or Early Bronze Age date (2900-1800 BC). The scraper is broadly oval in plan and in cross section being formed from a tertiary flake; possibly debitage. The upper / dorsal face of the scraper exhibits a series of irregular flake scars suggesting that this piece has been removed from a larger flake and been subsequently reused. The lower / ventral face is concave with a series of conchoidal ripples; the bulb of percussion is lost due to a snapped edge. The edges of the dorsal face have all be retouched with indirect percussion, all the flakes re…

A flint flake, apparently retouched to form a scraper. Cortex remains on one face. There appears to be a small amount of pressure flaking at the distal end to form a scraping edge. The flint measures 46.23 mm long, 24.14 mm wide, 17.17 mm thick and weighs 13.9 grams. The flint is a cream to grey/brown colour with a small area of pink cortex remaining. Other Mesolithic material from the area suggests this flint may also of this date.

A flint scraper or knife, probably Mesolithic in date. Cortex has been left on part of the flake, probably to facilitate comfortable handling of the tool. The flint is 'boomerang' shaped, and there is some retouch along the inwardly curving edge. The tool was probably intended to be held with the thumb held over the concaved ventral face allowing the tool to be used comfortably as a scraper or knife. The flint is a pale cream in colour, with grey patches and some pink/grey cortex. It measures 38.48 mm long, 19.76 mm wide, 9.62 mm thick and weighs 3.8 grams.

A probable flint scraper or knife, most likely to be Mesolithic in date. Cortex has been left on part of the flake, probably to facilitate comfortable handling. Just above the cortex. the flake has been worked to remove a thumb shaped notch, once again, probably to make it more comfortable to hold. On the opposite edge a series of notches have been removed by pressure flaking from the ventral surface. This edge is sharp and may have served as a knife or a notched tool, possibly for stripping bark from wood. The flint is pale cream to grey in colour, with brown patches and some pink c…

A probable Mesolithic tool, probably a scraper made from a flake. The butt of the flake is largely cortical, with the bulb of percussion just below this cortex on the ventral face. On the dorsal face, just above the cortex at the proximal end, the flake has been extensively worked with invasive retouch, possibly to form a scraping edge. Alternatively, this end may have been reworked to form a blunted ege to allow the flint to be held more comfortably, and it may have been the opposite end which was intended for use as a tool. Here, a notch has been removed and there is some further re…

The bulb of percussion is missing and is likely to have been trimmed from the artefact during preparation. The area of secondary reworking (retouch) covers all of the edges of the flake. Scraper possible a discoidal knife, reworked from a fragment of a flaked Neolithic (2900 -2100 BC) axehead. The axehead was created from a large piece of black coloured chert. Chert is a very similar rock to flint, in that it is silica based and flakes in a controlled manner. However, chert has a courser material matrix than flint and more skill is needed to knap it successfully. The tool is broadly sub-rectangular (rectangular with rounded corners) in plan and oval (slightly D shaped) in cross section. It probably comprised the upper part of the blade and cutting edge of the axe. …

Neolithic to early Bronze Age (c. 4000 to 1000BC) scraper: The scraper appears to be knapped from a tertiary flake which is a sub-oval. The dorsal surface has multiple re-touch scars which are invasive and abrupt, occurring on the distal end. The ventral surface has invasive scars which have removed the bulb of percussion, and conchoidal ripples. The scraper is knapped from flint which is a mottled mid grey. It measures 19.12mm long, 18.91mm wide, 8.96mm thick and weighing 4.05g. The scraper is probably a rounded/ end and side scraper and dates to the Neolithic or early Bronze Age …

Four (4) scrapers of later Neolithic or Early Bronze Age date (2300 -1800BC). The scrapers vary in colour from mid grey to pale brown. All are formed on oval or round tertiary flakes, some of which might be reused tertiary debitage. Many of the scrapers dorsal faces have several broad removals / flake facets most probably caused by other flakes being removed for tool production.Several of the upper dorsal faces have retouch best described as long and covering pressure flaking. Around the exterior edges of all the scrapers are areas of dense neat regular well applied secondary retouch …
