In profile the reverse of the leg is straight whereas the front face is slightly domed and undulating. In section the leg is an elongated semi-circle. The upper edge of the leg is broken, this may not be a recent break. The surface has traces of a heavy grey/green patina, but the surface has possibly been over cleaned. The leg measures 28.89mm tall, 19.98mm wide across the foot and 8.08mm thick. It weighs 15.2g. These cooking vessels, according to Geake, date from the …

Slightly laminated and burnt body sherd from a pottery vessel, not enough survives to indicate the form, probably dating from the later medieval or early post medieval period (1350-1550). The sherd is irregular in plan and profile. A cast copper alloy leg or foot from a copper alloy vessel probably a cauldron or skillet of later medieval date (1300 - 1500). The leg is sub-rectangular in plan and cross section. It tapers slightly from the top to the base. The top of the foot is uneven and would have been soldered to the body of the vessel. The foot expands at the very base; this forms a wide foot which would improve the stability of the vessel. The angle of the leg, when the foot is placed on a horizontal surface, is approximately 80°. The sides are irregular and taper slightly from the base. The weight is undecorated, although there are a number of scratches present on all surfaces. These are most likely to have been caused by movement in the ploughsoil. The weight is a mid grey colour with a relatively even patina that covers all surfaces. Much clipped contemporary copy (possibly from a continental source) of a silver short cross penny of King John, Class Va. The reasons that this may be a forgery is the very large and atypical coarse portrait on the obverse and the combination of moneyer and mint on the reverse. There is not a moneyer whose initials start WA[...]E at the mint at Exeter ([E]X on reverse of coin). It is therefore suggested that this coin is a contemporary forgery and formed from elements taken from several coins of the period. Cast lead or lead alloy weight of probable medieval date (1300 - 1550). The weight is sub-circular in plan and sub-triangular (conical) in cross section. The weight is plain and undecorated. Through the centre of the weight is a length of iron wire which has snapped at the top of the weight. It is likely that this wire would have been looped to aid safe-keeping and storage. The weight measures 28.2mm diameter and is 18.9mm thick. It weighs 93.79 grams or 3.3ozs (1447.4 grains). The weight is a mid grey colour with an even patina that covers all surfaces. It has been marked and abra…

Small un-diagnostic sherd of a late medieval glazed vessel (1400-1600 AD). The sherd is from the body of a vessel but not enough survives to ascertain the style profile size or shape of the vessel. The fabric is a relatively soft fired earthen ware with a number of small angular and sub-angular grit, quartz and iron stone inclusions. The fabric is also mica rich. The outer face of the sherd has been glazed with a mottled mid green brown coloured glaze which has decayed and is laminating The breaks are all worn and abraded. The sherd measures 12.1mm in length, 17.1mm high, is 5.9mm thic…

A cast copper alloy leg or foot from a copper alloy vessel probably a cauldron or skillet of later medieval date (1300 - 1500). The leg is complete and is broadly sub-rectangular in plan with a flaring expanded upper edge. It is broadly D shaped in cross section. The width also tapers from the top to the base. The upper part of the foot flares to form a wide semi-circular pad whose inner surface is concave. This widest piece would have been soldered to the body of the vessel. The outer edge of this upper part of the foot is decorated with a series of small scallop shaped ribs which con…

Cast copper alloy fragment from a vessel, dish or plate of probable late medieval or post medieval date (1400-1700 AD). Only a small fragment survives of a large circular or oval plate. It is irregular in plan and broadly sub-rectangular in cross section. The edge of the plate is bevelled and the other three edges are all broken. The breaks are relatively fresh – suggesting relatively modern damage. There is no decoration present, however the outer edge is heavily corroded and has a black carbon stained appearance. The fragment is a mid green colour with an uneven corroded and slight…
