An incomplete copper alloy Roman brooch of Colchester derivative, Polden Hill of Roman dating AD 80 to AD120. Around 25% of the brooch is present, consisting of the bow. The wings, spring, pin, foot and catch plate are missing, presumed lost in antiquity. The bow is angular and hump back, resembling a comma. It is broken around 1/3 of its length. An incomplete cast copper alloy figurine, dating to the Roman period (c. 43-410 AD). The figurine is of high quality, but incomplete and worn, missing much of the finer surface detail and multiple limb elements. Both the arms are broken above the elbows, the left leg ends in a break above the knee while the right leg ends in a break just above the ankle. A complete lead alloy bar shot (dumbell shot), of Post Medieval dating (17th Century). The shot consists of two spheres of 15.4 mm diameter joined together by a short circular sectioned bar of 5.9 mm diameter. It does not appear as if the shot has been fired. It measures 31.4 mm in length and a diameter of 15.4 mm. It weighs 38.5 g. The shot is a light grey colour, with an even surface patina. This shot was probably for use with a carbine or pistol of military specification, comprising paired spherical balls joined by an integrally cast round section shank. It is thought that …
