A post-medieval lead alloy whistle, of a type described as a 'police whistle'. The whistle is circular in cross section (14.21mm in diameter). The mouth of the whistle, which is an open ring (10.7mm in diameter), tapers upwards towards a collar, and from there the main body of the whistle (35.19mm in length, including the collars) joins another collar, tapering away to a ring at the top. A cast lead alloy (possibly pewter) fragment from a whistle of post medieval or early modern date (1650 – 1900 although probably 19th century). The fragment consists of the lower part of the cylindrical body of the whistle and the perforated knop shaped terminal. Although crushed in cross section the whistle would have originally been oval. The outer surface is decorated with a series of cast circumferential bands which enclose the lower and end parts of the whistle. Report on post-medieval silver whistle from Near Hereford, Herefordshire Fragmentary silver whistle made from silver sheet, broken and flattened at one end. The mouthpiece intact, shaped for blowing, and slit relatively undamaged. Remains of illegible maker's mark just above slit. Raised twisted rib decoration on the body of the whistle and border with stamped flower-heads between incised lines. Cast lead-alloy whistle in the shape of a pipe bowl, probably late 19th century in date. The pipe bowl is similar to clay pipe examples and is decorated with moulded decoration consisting of joined semicircles and small raised knops. The base of the bowl ends in a pointed spike. Casting flashes are prominent on both sides. Iron corrosion is evident on the rim, suggesting an iron collar.
