A near complete cast copper alloy toy pistol of post medieval date (1620-1640). The pistol is complete and is irregular in plan and profile. The stock, barrel, ramrod pipe and pan have been cast in one piece and there are four holes in the stock: three for the lock mechanism and one for the ramrod (both now missing). The barrel is seven sided / heptagonal / faceted and extends into an ornately shaped irregular stock. The stock is broadly rectangular in plan and in cross section; it tapers from the junction with the barrel and then flares to form the lower stock terminating in an octag…

Cast lead alloy (possibly pewter) toy / miniature dish of probable post medieval date (1600-1800 AD). The plate is cast in one piece; it has a slight raised foot ring that expands out into a slightly faceted bowl / dish which is decorated both on the external and internal faces. The best preserved design is present on the internal face where the base of the dish is decorated with five pellets (forming a flower) around a larger central pellet. The edges of the bowl are decorated with radiating lines which divide the plate into even wedges. The panel wedges are further decorated but thi…

Incomplete foot / leg from a cast lead alloy toy tripod ewer of probable later medieval or post medieval date (1400 - 1600 AD). The leg is broadly L shaped in plan and circular in cross section. The upper edge is broken, presumably in antiquity. This is where the leg would have joined the body of the vessel. The rest of the vessel is missing. From this broken edge the leg tapers slightly and then expands to form a relatively wide foot. The foot projects away at right angles from the leg and is roughly D shaped in cross section, with a flat base. No signs of decoration ar…

An incomplete cast copper alloy toy or miniature cauldron, dating to the late Medieval or early Post Medieval period, 1400 – 1600 AD. In plan the cauldron is irregular with a rounded body. It has a sagging base which flares into the rounded body and then tapers inward at the neck before expanding again to form a flared rim. Two diametrically opposed ‘lug-like’ looped handles are positioned from the rim to the flaring belly of the pot. The cross section of these loops is lentoid (rod like). From the base of the pot three legs extend. One of these is broken near the junction with t…

Fragment of a cast lead alloy toy, probably that of a single sided ‘Shy Cock’, of probable post medieval date (1600-1800). The shy cock toy is irregular in plan and profile. It is cast in one piece which has subsequently been folded to form a shy. The main elements are a wide sub-circular thick base from which extends a relatively thin sectioned sheet which has cast decoration on one face and is plain on the other. The shape of the sheet is irregular due to it forming an elaborately tailed cockerel, which has subsequently been badly abraded and torn in the ploughsoil. The cockerel …
