An incomplete copper alloy single-loop clasp fastener with an integral forked spacer dating to the Medieval period (c. AD 1350-1450). The forked spacer only has one arm remaining. The buckle plate not longer adheres. The frame of the buckle is sub-oval in plan with a recessed bar. The bar has the folding mechanism of the buckle still attached by a folded-over tag on the closure. The face of this closure is decorated with a quatrefoil motif which has been soldered on. See Whitehead (1996: 42) no. 241 for a similar example. YORYM-9377E5 recorded on the PAS database is also comparable. …

Medieval (late 14th to early 16th century) annular buckle pin: In plan, the copper alloy pin is a long slender rectangle with a rounded blunt tip. The opposite terminal has a fragment of a rounded penannular loop or annular loop which would be fixed around the bar of the frame. On the upper surface the pin is decorated with a transverse ridge. The surface of the pin is in fair condition and has an abraded mid-brown patina. The buckle pin measures 41.75mm long, 4.32mm wide at the loop and 5.38mm thick. It weighs 2.47g. An incomplete, cast, copper alloy buckle frame of medieval or post medieval date, AD c. 1350-c. 1650. The artefact consists of the outer loop of either a single loop, D shaped buckle or a double looped (spectacle) buckle. The frame has a triangular shaped, notched pin rest, with a decorative groove either side. The frame is oval in cross section, and is titled so that the outer face slopes outwards and downwards towards the rear. It has an even mid- green coloured well preserved surface patina. Weight 2.7g. Remaining length 20mm, width 28mm, thickness 3.8mm.

An incomplete cast copper alloy pin from a buckle of late Medieval to Post Medieval date (1200 - 1500 AD). The pin is sub rectangular in plan, and rectangular in cross section. The shank of the pin tapers to a blunt end. The pin is slighlty wider and deeper at the head of the pin, where the loop that held the pin to the buckle bar has broken off, leaving two rough areas, one at the end of the pin and one underneath. The frame is a quarter oval in cross-section with a flatened back. The frame has a deep green patina. There are file marks but no sign of decoration. The frame is 20.6mm long by 22.0mm wide. The frame varies in width between 3.2mm and 4.4mm wide, and is 3.2mm thick. It weighs 3.4 grams.

Cast copper alloy double looped buckle, with an integral cast suspension loop, of post-medieval date (1500 -1630). The frame of the buckle is oval in plan and D shaped in cross section. A central integral cast bar divides the buckle frame into two even loops. This bar is rectangular in plan and sub-oval in cross section. On the lower edge is a centrally positioned integral cast suspension loop. This loop is set at 90 degrees to the plane of the buckle. A cast copper alloy fragment most probably from a medieval 'roller' buckle (1350-1500). The fragment is relatively small comprising a pointed oval hoop from which extends two horizontal bars - one either side . The mid point of one side of the oval has a deliberate worn pin rest / notch. The buckle is a mid grey green colour with an applied black coloured surface - possibly decayed tinning. Post Medieval (16th to mid 17th century) single-looped buckle frame: The loop of the copper alloy frame is a sub-rectangle with an expanded, splayed foot, and a lozenge shaped knop position centrally on the frame opposite the strap bar. There is the remains of an iron pin on the strap bar. The strap bar is narrow and rectangular in cross-section. The surface has traces of a mid green coloured patina. An incomplete copper alloy buckle of post-medieval date. The buckle is a sub-rectangular knee buckle with a drilled frame to house a separate spindle. The spindle no longer remains. The metal has a mid-grey/brown patina and is worn. The buckle is 17.3mm long, 16.7mm wide, 3.4mm thick and weighs 1.2g. A similar example is illustrated in Whitehead p.111, no.712 and is dated to circa AD 1720 - 1790.

Medieval probable buckle (13thto 15thcenturies): The copper alloy buckle plate is almost complete and only a fragment of the frame remains. The plate is an elongated rectangle which is bent in profile forming an L-shape. One terminal has a moulded edge in the form of a long central knop, with a shorter knop either side. A fragment from the frame of a Medieval, cast, copper alloy buckle. The heavily corroded fragment comes from the curved, outer end of a single looped, D shaped buckle.
