Incomplete silver penny of Edward I, Mint London, Class 2b January - May 1280. The penny has been reused to form a brooch with a small silver loop being soldered to the obverse face. It has been applied in such a way that the cross on the reverse is vertical. It is possible that the front face has also been gilt (although this may be a result of the burial conditions). The lower part of thE coin has been lost - probably as a result of movement in the soil.

A possible, incomplete cast lead alloy (pewter?), disc brooch of Weetch type 5 and early medieval date (10th century AD). There is some debate as to whether this is actually part of a brooch or possibly a post medieval lead token; due to significant areas of damage it is impossible to be certain of the identification. However, it is the recorders assessment that the diagnostic elements of design and potential fittings on the reverse suggest that this is a brooch. If the artefact is a brooch it would have originally been circular, however due to abrasion and plough damage, it is now…

An incomplete fragment from the head of a copper alloy Roman Trumpet brooch dating from 75 - 175AD. The lower bow and foot of the brooch are lost. The upper bow tapers from a flared head to a relatively recent break suggesting damage in the plough-zone. The break is jagged and reveals the core of the brooch which is a black colour and seems separate to the green copper alloy casing - the black substance is relatively soft and slight granular and comes easily away from the copper alloy. When viewed at x30 magnification it seems almost ceramic in nature with small grains of mica / sand …

An incomplete and heavily abraded cast copper alloy Roman Trumpet brooch dating from 75 - 175AD. The head and upper bow are present but the lower bow and foot of the brooch are lost. An incomplete and abraded Roman cast copper Colchester derivative two-part brooch dating from 43 - 100 AD. The brooch is broken across the lower bow and the foot and catchplate are lost. The upper bow tapers from a flared head to the body of the bow which tapers along its length terminating in a broken foot. The head of the brooch is abraded; it is possible that very short 'stubby' wings were present one either side of the head, although it is difficult to ascertain this with any degree of certainty. The rear of the head has an oval countersunk hole filled with compacted soil, it is d…

Extending from the upper part of the head is a head-plate. This is abrad…

Roman copper alloy bow brooch of Trumpet type, dating to the 1st or 2nd century AD The brooch is incomplete, missing the spring and the catch and the bow is distorted (with a length of 40.5mm, a depth of 21.0mm and a weight of 7.4g). The brooch is fragmentary and is represented by the head only (with a surviving length of 30.7mm, a surviving depth of 13.0mm and a weight of 18.3g). The spring has been lost and the head is damaged.
