A Mesolithic notched blade. The blade is sub-rectangular in shape and measures 25.44 mm long, 12.52 mm wide and 3.83 mm thick. It weighs 1.6 grams. A notch is located on the right lateral edge near to the proximal end of the blade, applied using pressure flaking from the ventral face. A further smaller notch is situated mid way up the left lateral edge, this time applied from the ventral surface. The lack of an obvious bulb of percussion suggests that the blade was snapped, and based on the even patina at the break this probably occurred in prehistory. The flint has a pale cream to gr…

A Mesolithic blade. The blade was probably a waste piece, although there is very possible retouch on the left lateral edge at the distal end. It measures 26.68 mm long, 7.53 mm long, 4.29 mm thick and weighs 0.8 grams. It is sub-triangular in section, with a central ridge which is almost parallel to the lateral edges. It is slightly convexed on the ventral face. The flint has a pale grey patina.

A Mesolithic blade. The blade was probably a waste piece, although there is some slight retouch on the left lateral edge at the proximal end. It measures 53.48 mm long, 17.21 mm wide, 9.62 mm thick and weighs 6 grams. It is sub-triangular in section, with a central ridge which is parallel to the lateral edges. A large amount of cortex remains on the dorsal face, particularly around the central ridge.  The flint is a dark grey colour with cream to white inclusions and a cream coloured cortex.

A broken Mesolithic blade. The remains of the blade measure 20.0 mm long, 11.62 mm wide, 3.14 mm thick and weighs 0.7 grams. It is trapezoidal in section. A different colour in the patina at the break suggests that the break occurred sometime after the original deposition of the flint.

A Mesolithic blade. The blade measures 23.85 mm long, 12.98 mm wide, 3.94 mm thick and weighs 1.3 grams. It is triangular in section. The blade appears to have been snapped at its proximal end, although based on the even patina on the flint this is an ancient break. The left lateral edge is still sharp, whilst the right edge has been blunted using retouch from the dorsal face, presumably to facilitate comfortable handling of the blade. A ridge, parallel to the lateral edges, runs down the centre of the blade. The flint is a pale cream colour.

A Mesolithic flint bladelet. The bladelet is incomplete, missing the proximal end where the bulb of percussion and striking platform would be. This may be a result of damage, or perhaps more likely, that it represents a stage in the working of a microlith. The lack of obvious retouch along either lateral edge or at the distal end of the bladelet perhaps suggests that this is not a microlith itself, but may represent an unutilised part of the bladelet. The flint is a pale grey to white in colour. The bladelet measures 19.05 mm in length, 8 mm wide, 2.8 mm thick and weighs 0.3 grams. …

A Mesolithic flint bladelet. The bladelet is broken, although whether by accident or design is uncertain. What appears to be retouch on the lateral edge and distal end of the bladelet may instead represent post-depositional damage, as these areas have a different patina to the break in the bladelet. The flint used has a grey colouration. The artefact measures 17.6 mm long, 6.8 mm wide, 2.8 mm thick and weighs 0.3 grams. It is trapezoidal in section.

A broken Mesolithic flint bladelet. The bladelet was possibly broken during creation of a microlith, and may represent a waste artefact of the process. There is possible retouch along the right lateral edge (when held with dorsal side facing), although it is also possible that this is a result of wear. Less certain retouch is also visible on the opposite lateral edge. The flint is cream in colour. The remains of the bladelet measure 14 mm in length, 7.65 mm wide, 2.6 mm thick and weighs 0.2 grams. A Mesolithic flint bladelet, apparently snapped. A difference in the patina of the flint at the break perhaps suggests it was broken post-deposition. A Mesolithic flint blade. The blade does not appear to have been subject to deliberate retouch since having been struck from the core. What appears at first glance to be retouch along the right lateral edge is irregular and so seems more likely to be the effect of accidental damage. The blade has a projection at the left side of its distal end. Given the lack of retouch at this end it seems likely that this protrusion is a result of accident rather than design, although its tip is missing and it may still have been utilised as a useful tool. Parallel negative scars on the dorsal face s…

A Mesolithic flint bladelet. The bladelet appears to be broken at one end and given the fairly uniform patina on the flint this is likely to have occurred fairly soon after having been struck from the core. Whether this relates to deliberate snapping of the bladelet in the production of mircroliths is uncertain. There may be some slight retouch on the left side of the bladelet, although it is also possible that this represents damage. The bulb scar and srtiking platform are visible at the proximal end of the flint. The flint is a pale grey to white in colour and the bladelet is triang…

A Mesolithic flint blade. The blade is 41.6 mm in length, 16.6 mm wide and 4.9 mm thick. Negative scars on the dorsal face at the proximal end show where the core was abraded to produce a suitable striking platform. The bulb of percussion is clearly visible on the ventral surface at the proximal end. The blade is triangular in section. Very faint apparent retouch is discernible on the lateral edges, clearer on the left edge than the right (when held with the dorsal surface facing). As this retouch is not clearly defined it is possible that this is damage caused by utilisation of the bl…

A Mesolithic flint blade. The blade is 43.9 mm in length, 18.3 mm wide and 3.6 mm thick. Negative scars on the dorsal face at the proximal end show where the core was abraded to produce a suitable striking platform. A further likely striking platform at the distal end of the blade suggests that it was struck from a two-platform core. Intriguingly, there is evidence for burning at both distal and proximal ends. Given that the blade shows no evidence for having been burnt elsewhere this may represent evidence for heat treating of the core to aid knapping. The blade appears to have …

A Mesolithic broken flint bladelet. The flint has very fine retouch along one edge, applied from the ventral surface using pressure flaking. Consistency in the patina of the flint at the break suggests that this break is ancient, although whether this was an accident or deliberate is uncertain. The flint is triangular in profile with a ridge running down the centre of the dorsal face. It is of a pale grey to white in colour. It measures 11.41 mm in length, 11.08 mm wide and is 2.78 mm thick. It weighs 0.5 grams.

A Mesolithic flint broken bladelet. The artefact is mostly not retouched, suggesting that it is not itself a microlith, however retouch to the right lateral edge at the break may suggest it was broken during mircolith manufacture using the microburin technique.
