A silver penny probably of Richard II - struck at the York mint using local dies. It is pobable that the coins is double struck and is also heavily worn making positive identification difficult. John Naylor (PAS National Finds Advisor for medieval coins) has suggested: This coin is probably of Richard II, York local dies. It seems to be badly double-struck so I think the : after EBO is more likely to be a single pellet, but again I'm not totally sure. It seems to best match Purvey's group A1 (no. 37) which has he reverse .EBO. Similar to North: 1330 Group A, C or D

A heavily clipper silver penny of either Edward IV from his second reign 1471-1483, or Richard III 1483-5 - struck at the mint in York. Type XXI 4. If this is the case then the coin would have been struck under the authority of Archbishop Thomas Rotherham (1480-1500). The inscription has been almost entirely removed and the identification is based solely on the marks by the breast and estimated size and style of the coin. Without an inscription it is hard to tell whether the coin was struck under Edward IV or Richard III reign. North: 1654 / 1686

Heavily clipped and worn silver penny - most probably of Henry VI or Edward IV, dating from AD 1422-1483. Both legends are illegible, but the quatrefoil in the centre of the reverse cross confirms that the coin was struck at the episcopal mint in York. It is likely that this coin was of Episcopal issue either Sede Vacante or by Archbishop George Neville on behalf of Edward IV (Second reign, AD 1471-1483) due to remaining detail. A complete penny of Edward III - most probably from the 3rd 'florin' coinage - 1344-51. The penny is well worn and crumpled. The coin is double struck. The first strike was off flan as I can make out the inner edge of the first legend outside of the second legend. The only descernable part of the legend is DVS followed by a single saltire stop. Only one lock of hair is descernable in the portrait. On the reverse I can make out RACI C in the legend, and a quatre foil at the centre of the cross. Making this an Archiepiscopal issue from York. Diameter 18.4mm, weight 0.9g
