Object type: JETTON

A heavily worn and eroded probable struck copper alloy jetton of later medieval date. Both faces of the coin are heaily worn and a light green polished shiny patina is present, both these factors make identifying the coin in more detail difficult. The obverse is almost completely lost and the identification is based on the partial renains of a lis termialled tripple stranded cross on the reverse. Such crosses are most often associated with Jettons struck in tournai during that later 14th and 15th centuries. Diameter 16.3mm. Thickness 1.5mm. Weight 3.9 grams

A heavily eroded and corroded struck copper alloy coin; most probably a Tournai style jetton of the later medieval period (1350-1450). The coin is too heavily worn to be identifiable and it is possible that it might in fact be a Roman As - although the thickness and what remains of teh surface do not 'feel' as if they date from this period. The jetton measures 27.2mm length, 23.1mm width, is 2.1mm thick and weighs 4.72 grams

Copper alloy Tournai Jetton, probably dating to the late medieval / early post medieval period 1497-1547. Both faces of the coin are encrusted with a concreted amalgam of earth and grit which cannot be removed. It is likely that this crust is a by-product of corrosion. The edges of the coin have also been badly abraded; this has removed some of the inscription around the edge of the token. Reference: Mitchener: 749 pp 242-244

Copper alloy French 'stock'jetton probably from Tournai dated to the later medieval period (1400 - 1550). The jetton has been heavily abraded and almost all detail has been lost. It has also been pierced from the obverse to reverse with a square shaped punch. The waste material around the hole has been trimmed and the hole filed to remove sharp edges. The hole is slightlly irregular suggesting that it has been suspended / worn.
