A silver denarius of Mark Anthony's 'Legionary coinage', 32-31BC. Reece period 1, ANT AVG III VIR R P C, Praetorian galley right; Reverse: Legionary eagle between two standards. The reverse surface has many scratch marks and the bottom half is damaged, therefore the reverse legend is unclear. Crawford 544ff. The flan on which the coin is struck coin measures 2.1 mm, this is perhaps thicker than regular examples. (RRC (1974:p.390) no. 374.2. The issue was produced by Quintus Caecilius Metellus Pius, serving as a Sullan commander in the fight against Carrinas, Norbanus and Carbo. The reverse type may have a Sullan as well as a family significance (RRC 1974).

Roman Republican Serrated Denarius of moneyer L. Aurelias Cotta (Crawford 314/1D). The coin was struck in Rome in 105 BC. The coin has also evidence of Brockage: The term Brockage refers to a mis-struck coin. In this example the reverse face of the coin has been over struck with the obverse (which is in reverse and indenteded rather than in relief). This was caused by the coin sticking to the upper part of the die when a second coin was struck.
